St Michael's Mount. In 1070 St Michael's Mount was granted to the same monks who built Mont St Michael off Normandy. Though not such a dramatic location as the French model, St Michael's Mount is still impressive. High tide cuts the island off from the mainland, and the priory buildings rise loftily above the crags.
St Michael's Mount was an important place of medieval pilgrimage. Since 1659, the St Aubyn family has lived in the ex-priory buildings. At low tide you can walk across from Marazion.
